A group of locals are taking part in province-wide protests they say are aimed at holding the provincial government accountable.
This past Saturday, around 75 people in total attended the first protest against the Doug Ford Conservative government in the area of Bell Blvd. and North Front St in Belleville.
The attendees included members of CUPE, the Quinte Labour Council, the Teachers Federation, the Province Liberal Association and Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp, as well as other citizens.
Representatives and organizers say there a number of reasons for the protest, the latest being the freedom of information act changes which they say allow the government to hide how they are conducting business.
Additionally, the passage of this bill allows Ford to refuse the release of his phone records to the RCMP. It also included the Strong Mayor’s act and the passage of Bill 97, the Plan to Protect Ontario Act (Budget Measures).
A similar event will be at the same location in Belleville this coming Saturday.
