Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation is pleased to announce the outstanding success of the Handbags for Hospice 2026 event, which raised an incredible $163,000 to support Community Care Northumberland’s Hospice Services offered at Ed’s House.
On April 9, guests gathered for an unforgettable evening of fashion, fun, and fundraising in support of hospice care in Northumberland. The night was packed with excitement as attendees bid on over 140 luxury handbags. New for this year, Handbags for Hospice welcomed “Layne The Auctionista” to help raise funds throughout the night. As a dynamic auctioneer known for engaging audiences and driving generous bids, Layne played a key role in elevating the evening’s excitement while helping to raise vital funds in support of compassionate end-of-life care.
The Handbags for Hospice Committee extends heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, with special recognition to Presenting Sponsor Jacqueline Pennington of Re/Max Hallmark. Their invaluable support played a key role in achieving this remarkable result. Another noteworthy sponsor was Tony Pulla, who sponsored the Give a Gift from the Heart Campaign which raised $73,260. This money will go to improving the outdoor space for residents at Ed’s House Hospice Care Centre.
The overwhelming support from sponsors and the community has been essential to this success. Funds raised will help ensure individuals and families across Northumberland County continue to receive compassionate, no-cost hospice services, including clinical navigation by Registered Nurses who guide clients and caregivers through the healthcare system from diagnosis of a life-limiting illness through bereavement, supportive care counselling, goals of care conversations, advance care planning, palliative pain and symptom management, volunteer visiting programs, end-of-life planning, grief and bereavement support, and 24/7 end-of-life care at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
“The funds raised this evening help ensure that individuals and families in our community receive exceptional, compassionate hospice care, at no cost to them. At Ed’s House, dignity, comfort and support are not luxuries; they are promises. Beyond our residence, our community hospice team continues to walk alongside individuals and families through life-limiting illness and bereavement, offering care, guidance and hope when it is needed most.” said Jordan Prosper, CEO Community Care Northumberland.
The Handbags for Hospice Committee would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn & Convention Centre for hosting the event.
