The road to a new educational space in Picton has been paved.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday for a new replacement school for St. Gregory Catholic School.
The catholic school board was pleased to welcome students, staff, representatives from Prince Edward County, Board Trustees, Father George, the architect and construction teams and family members to the ceremony.
The $24.4 million project will provide 354 elementary student spaces, 15 learning studios and five learning commons.
“This new build comes at a perfect time as the Prince Edward County community continues to grow and thrive,” stated Director of Education Carey Smith-Dewey.
“St. Gregory Catholic School will provide a welcoming and modern space for our students and will serve as a vibrant community hub for years to come.”
In March of 2026, the Ministry of Education approved the Board’s request for additional funding to build St. Gregory Catholic School, allowing construction to begin this spring.
In 2022, the ALCDSB purchased a new site located at 175 Talbot Street in Picton for the construction of the new school.
This new build continues ALCDSB’s commitment to design modern, collaborative learning spaces which will inspire our students to reach their full potential. This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.
While this work is being completed, the St. Gregory Catholic School community will continue to be housed in the existing St. Gregory Catholic School building located on Owens Street in Picton.
