Senior A hockey action this past Thanksgiving Weekend

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 14, 2025 | 11:13 AM

Local teams in the Northern Premier Sr. A Hockey League had little to celebrate on Thanksgiving weekend. At least, on the ice.

All three clubs — Deseronto Bulldogs, Tweed Oil Kings and the expansion County Royals — suffered losses. Deseronto and Tweed were one-goal losers by identical 5-4 scores on the road while the Royals, also playing away from home, were beaten 7-2 at Durham.

BARNCATS 5, BULLDOGS 4

At Lindsay, Luc Brown led the Deseronto attack with two tallies while Mitch Gustavsen and Nathan Hudgin counted the other Bulldogs goals. Lindsay outshot the visitors, 43-40, with Aaron Young turning aside 38 shots in goal for Deseronto.
ON DECK: Lindsay at Deseronto, Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

LUMBERJACKS 5, OIL KINGS 4

At Westport, four different skaters scored for Tweed: Jacob Vreugdenhill, Elijah Brahaney, Nathaniel Burelle and Dawson Ellis. Evan Morrison turned in a 52-save performance in net for the Oil Kings while his teammates fired 51 shots at the Lumberjack cage.

ON DECK: Tweed at Smiths Falls, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

HAWKS 7, ROYALS 2

The hometown Hawks got a six-point effort from former Tweed Oil Kings forward Andrew Rhynold with a hat trick plus three assists. Kenny Murduff and Zach Thompson scored for the Prince Edward County crew which was outshot by a 2-1 margin at 50-25.

Steven Tierney (43 saves) took the loss in goal for the Royals.

ON DECK: Durham at The County (Wellington), Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
