UPDATE – Highway 2 closed e/b following serious crash in Quinte West

2ND UPDATE SUNDAY – 6 PM – Quinte West OPP have confirmed that pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night in Quinte West.

One individual has been pronounced deceased following a collision on Old Highway 2 in Quinte West.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Quite West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian on Old Highway 2 just west of Montrose Road.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian, a male in his 70s from Belleville was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Old Highway 2 remained closed between Aikins Road and Montrose Road for several hours for the investigation with assistance from the OPP Technical Collision Investigation and Reconstruction teams.

Anyone with information or video footage of the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

1ST UPDATE – Highway 2 in Quinte West reopened at 2:12 am Sunday morning. There has been no update yet on injuries.

ORIGINAL STORY – A serious crash closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 2 in Sidney Ward of Quinte West on Saturday night.

The OPP posted the following message on social media at 9:39 pm.

ROAD CLOSURE: Eastbound lanes on Old Highway 2 is closed between Aikins Road and Montrose Road In Quinte West due to a collision. Please avoid the area until further notice and plan alternate routes. Updates will be provided when more details become available.

There is no word yet on the injuries involved though some unconfirmed reports on social media say a vehicle may have struck a pedestrian.
