Operation Impact results in nearly 1,700 charges on Ontario roadways

The initial results of Operation Impact in eastern Ontario show nearly 1,700 charges were laid on the roads and highways patrolled by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Operation Impact is a national education and enforcement campaign, targeting impaired, aggressive and distracted driving, as well as the use of seat belts and child car seats. These are the main causes of death and injury on Canadian roadways.

The initiative began Friday, October 10 and wrapped up on Monday, October 13, 2025, involving officers from all East Region OPP Detachments and Traffic Units between Quinte West and Quebec, as well as throughout the Ottawa Valley.

The preliminary results show that OPP officers in East Region laid 1,698 charges, including:

Speeding – 982
Stunt driving – 29
Impaired driving – 41
Seatbelt violations – 102
Distracted driving – 27
Failing to have proper insurance – 83

“The majority of fatal collisions are preventable, and the steps to staying safe are simple; slow down, keep your eyes on road, never drive impaired and always wear your seatbelt.”

– Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm, OPP East Region

Highway and road safety is a shared responsibility. OPP officers across eastern Ontario are on the roads 24/7, looking for those who engage in dangerous driving habits. If you think lives are at risk because someone is driving dangerously, or you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 9-1-1 immediately. You may be saving lives.
