Inmate dies in custody at Kingston-area prison

By Paul Martin Apr 14, 2026 | 9:39 AM

On April 11, 2026, Jean-Francois Savoie, an inmate from Bath Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre, died while in
custody of apparent natural causes.

At the time of death, the inmate was 67 years old and had been serving an indeterminate sentence since December 19,
2000.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances.

CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
