Impaired, speeding charges laid in QW traffic stop

Impaired and speeding charges were laid in a Quinte West OPP investigation. this past Thanksgiving weekend.

Around 1 p.m. on Sunday, a traffic stop for speeding led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may be under the influence of alcohol and cannabis.

An Alcohol Screening Device was administered, the driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for further testing, which resulted in charges being laid.

Police also reportedly recovered a quantity of cannabis in the vehicle.

Cameron Kimmett, 23, of Trenton, was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Speeding 1 – 49km over posted limit
Fail to notify change of address
Possession of over 30g dried cannabis (or equivalent) in public place
Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Belleville Court at a later date. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their license suspended for 90 days
