A fire caused moderate damage to a vacant commercial building on the east side of Deseronto on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 06:55 am, the Deseronto Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 501 Dundas Street. The incident involved a large, vacant commercial building and warehouse located on the eastern edge of town.
Fire crews arrived on scene at 07:02 and initiated an offensive fire attack. Given the size and nature of the structure, mutual aid was immediately requested from the Mohawk Fire Department.
The fire originated on the second floor and was quickly contained, preventing further spread throughout the building. The blaze was declared under control by 08:07.
Firefighters remained on site for several hours to extinguish remaining hot spots, check for fire extension, and ensure the fire was extinguished.
There were no injuries.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have taken over the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The Deseronto Fire Department extends its sincere thanks to our mutual aid partners at the Mohawk Fire Department for their prompt response and support. The collaboration between our departments continues to be a vital and valued partnership. We also wish to thank the community members and local businesses who reached out with offers of assistance following today’s incident.
