A motion will be debated next month to have the Ministry of Education to take over operations of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
There was a packed gallery at Monday’s meeting as the Board was expected to discuss the issue of the recently awarded busing contracts for the upcoming school year (2026/2027).
Trustee Ernie Parsons had filed a Notice of Motion last month to overturn that decision and remove the Board from the contracts awarded by Tri-Board Transportation and conduct a new process independently.
Board Chair Kari Kramp, after receiving guidance in a report from staff, ruled that motion out of order, and a subsequent motion to “challenge the chair” on that decision by Parsons failed on a recorded 8-2 vote.
As a result, the earlier motion from Parsons to overturn the busing contracts never made it to the floor for a vote.
At the end of the meeting, Parsons issued the following notice of motion.
Notice of motion
That the Ministry of Education be requested to take control of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and appoint a supervisor for the Board.
It will now be on the agenda for the next meeting on April 27th.
