Impaired charges laid in separate incidents

Belleville Police laid charges in three separate impaired driving incidents over the past few days.

In connection with an impaired driving incident on December 31st, 2025, following an investigation, Belleville Police have charged a motorist with operation while impaired.

Belleville Police responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver after a male was observed to be asleep in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers repeatedly knocked on the driver’s side window to wake the male and subsequently observed signs of impairment.

Following an investigation, Michael Zaharko, a 49-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with on Friday with;

· Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

He was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date in April.

A reportedly erratic driver was stopped and charged by Belleville Police on Friday.

Before 4 p.m. that day, BPS officials received multiple calls regarding a vehicle travelling erratically in the Old Highway 2 area.

After finding the vehicle stopped on the side of the road, officers spoke with the driver, reportedly noticed signs of impairment and saw an open alcohol bottle next to the driver’s seat.

A 35-year-old Trenton man, whose name was not released, faces impaired, prohibited driving, driving while under suspension and being unaccompanied by a qualified driver as a Class G1 license holder charges, as well as charges of driving a vehicle with liquor readily available and having a Blood Alcohol Concentration Level above zero as a Novice Driver.

He was held for a bail hearing.

A sleeping driver was charged with impairment over the weekend.

Around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Belleville Police responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver after a male was observed to be slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

Officers located the parked vehicle on scene and knocked on the driver’s side window to wake the male.

Police subsequently observed signs of impairment and observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

As a result of investigation, Jordan Wood, a 34-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs.

He was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date in May.

The investigation remains ongoing.
