The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid an impaired driving charge in two separate incidents over the weekend.
On Sunday, March 29, 2026, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 2, after observing it operating at speeds in excess of the posted limit.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).
Kaleb BEERE, 25 years old, from Belleville, was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit
- Fail to notify change of address
- Fail to have insurance card
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 14, 2026.
Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
In a separate incident, Friday, March 27, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Ontario Street, Trenton.
During the investigation, an individual was arrested and the driver was subsequently transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
Michael VINE, 34 years old, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 7, 2026. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
