Fire overnight in Brighton

By Paul Martin Mar 26, 2026 | 3:29 PM

Few details have come out on a fire at a building in Brighton in the overnight hours.

Fire crews from Brighton and Cramahe Township responded to the reported blaze at the historic building on Young Street, across from Sobey’s around 2 Thursday morning.

Flames had reportedly broken out in the lower levels of the building and eventually made their way to the roof, making the blaze difficult to knock down.

Heavy smoke was also reported.

Eventually, firefighters got the blaze under control later in the morning.

No one is believed to be injured.

An investigation is ongoing into the cause.
