Collisions shut down w/b 401 approaching Napanee and cause multiple delays in other areas

UPDATE: All highways are reopened to traffic

The overnight snowfall has been a major factor in a series of crashes slowing and shutting down various sections of the 401 through the Quinte Region on Tuesday.

A multi-vehicle collision shut down the westbound 401 in Napanee early this morning.

Lennox and Addington OPP shut down the westbound 401 between Palace Road and County Road 41 around 1:30 am.

No word yet on the extent of injuries involved there.

About 20 minutes before that, the westbound lanes were also closed at County Road 4 in Odessa. That crash was cleared by 6 am.

Around 5:45 am, there was another crash which has closed the westbound 401 at Gardiners Road in Kingston. They later backed up the closure to Sydenham Road westbound, but it was cleared by 11 am.

There was a crash on the westbound 401 approaching Glen Miller Road in Quinte West involving a tractor trailer into the median around 7 am.

There were no injuries. One lane was closed for about two hours, but it looks like it reopened around 9 am.

A big-rig also crashed around 7:45 am on Wallbridge Loyalist Road by the eastbound 401 on ramp. Delays were reported in that area for a short period of time.

There was also a single lane closure eastbound 401 at Wooler Road around 5 am, and a similar single lane closure eastbound 401 near Grafton around 5 am. Those cleared by 7 am.

OPP issued an advisory this morning suggesting people avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.

There are still many delays on local roadways due to slick conditions and poor visibility caused by strong, gusting winds.
