School board says no danger after report of online threat at PECI

By Hailey MacDonald Oct 17, 2025 | 1:45 PM

A letter has been sent to parents of children attending Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) in Picton following an incident where an online threat was received at the school on Friday morning.

School board officials say the threat was received from within the PECI community in an online post earlier in the day.

Posts circulating online reportedly showed a message that indicated someone was planning on bringing a weapon to school.

The OPP were contacted and their investigation determined that there was no risk to students or staff at the school and as a result, learning is continuing on site as usual.

The following message was sent today to parents who have children who attend PECI.

It is included in its entirety.

MESSAGE FROM PECI TO PARENTS

Hello PECI families,

The safety of students and staff is our priority. We are sending this message to make you aware of a situation regarding some online posts.

We are aware that a threat was made within the school community. We are working collaboratively with the OPP to investigate and to seek clarity on this matter. We are appreciative of the partnership with the OPP and others who assist us in keeping the school safe so that we are able to provide a secure learning environment.

The OPP are addressing the situation and have confirmed that there is no risk to students or staff at the school.

It is important that you hear directly from us because information shared outside of official updates can cause unnecessary worry. Students are safe and learning is continuing, as usual.

Thank you for your continued support of PECI.

Sent on behalf of PECI.
