The City of Belleville is happy to put the spotlight on a member of its staff for his quick thinking and courage in a frightening situation.
At Monday’s council meeting, the city recognized Nicholas Cameron from the Transportation and Operations team for his bravery in assisting during a recent house fire.
While working the night shift plowing sidewalks, Nicholas noticed flames coming from a home and saw a woman in distress outside.
He quickly jumped into action, helping ensure she was safely away from the fire.
When he learned another person might still be inside, he yelled through the front windows before going around the back of the house and entering the second floor.
With smoke quickly filling the home, he was forced to exit and waited for emergency services to arrive.
