Cat families in Napanee will have an opportunity to access spay/neuter services when the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society brings its Neuter Scooter to the community on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
The Neuter Scooter helps reduce barriers to spay/neuter care by transporting cats from central Napanee to a high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter clinic for surgery, then returning them to their families at the end of the day. Additional services, including rabies vaccinations and microchips, are also available.
Spay/neuter surgery is an important part of responsible pet care and plays a key role in preventing unplanned litters and reducing the number of animals who may ultimately need homes.
“Programs like the Neuter Scooter help make spay/neuter services more accessible to families while supporting efforts to reduce pet overpopulation,” says Sara Vanderveer, Community Outreach Coordinator, Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Lennox and Addington Animal Centre. “By providing transportation to and from the partnering clinic, the Neuter Scooter helps remove the logistical barriers that many families face when seeking spay/neuter care.”
The Ontario SPCA launched its Neuter Scooter pilot program in 2024 to help reduce barriers to spay/neuter services. In 2025, Ontario SPCA Neuter Scooters made 42 trips to communities across the province, providing 765 cats with spay/neuter surgeries and preventing more than an estimated 50,000 unplanned offspring.
