Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander welcomed officials from Brighton, New York as part of a special Council meeting, Friday.
Mayor Ostrander expressed to Council earlier this year the need to reach out, amid the renewed start of U.S. trade tensions and tariffs.
Ostrander’s idea to establish a Twinning Charter with Brighton, New York was warmly received.
Bill Moehle, the Supervisor for the Town of Brighton, New York, official signed the document in a ceremony north of the border, that members of the public and Brighton (Ontario) Council attended.
“Building strong international friendships at the local level is essential. Twinning with Brighton, New York allows us to honour our shared history and create real opportunities for cultural, civic, and community exchange. Even during times of broader cross-border tension, local leaders have a responsibility to foster kindness, goodwill, and mutual respect. I am proud to welcome Town Supervisor Bill Moehle to Brighton, Ontario, as we pave the way for a strong, connected future together,” said Mayor Brian Ostrander, in a written statement.
