A Belleville man of no fixed address was located and charged a day after a reported assault this week.
While on general patrol in the city’s east end on Wednesday, Belleville Police received a report of an assault that had occurred earlier that day.
It was reported that a male had taken a female’s purse and walked away. When the female attempted to retrieve her property, the male punched her in the face before fleeing the area.
Police investigated the incident; however, they did not locate the suspect at that time.
Belleville Police eventually returned to the area and located the male suspect on Thursday.
As a result of the investigation, the 41-year-old man was arrested and charged with spousal assault and two counts of failing to comply with probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing.
