UDPATE – Belleville Police have now issued a release confirming the details we provided earlier and also giving information about the person arrested and the charges involved.
On July 15, 2026, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a two-vehicle collision near Wallbridge Crescent and Moira Street West.
Upon arrival, officers observed a damaged vehicle near the intersection. It was reported that one vehicle had been travelling at a high rate of speed when it struck another vehicle.
Immediately after the collision, witnesses observed the suspect vehicle continue driving in a damaged condition before the driver turned onto Murney Street, where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers searched the area and located a male suspect at 7:44 p.m. in the area of Bridge Street West and Sidney Street. He was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the police investigation, Allen Martell, a 55-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
· Failure to stop after accident
· Dangerous operation
He was released on an Undertaking with a court date in October.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
ORIGINAL STORY FROM 5:30 AM Thursday – More information is expected on Thursday about a hit and run that ended with an arrest in Belleville on Wednesday night.
A two-vehicle collision happened on Moira Street West near Murney Street (and Wallbridge Crescent) around 7:30 pm.
One of the vehicles continued for a short distance with the driver reportedly fleeing the scene on foot.
Officials with Belleville Police say one person was taken into custody a short time later.
There is no word yet on charges or the extent of injuries for the people in the other vehicle.
