It was a very early morning start for firefighters in west-end Belleville on Friday.
Crews responded to a fire in the basement of a home on Moira Street West just west of Ponton Street at 1:12 am.
The fire was quickly brought under control with an aggressive interior attack.
No word yet on the extent of the damage or the cause.
One male was inside the home but was able to escape unharmed. They were checked on scene by Hastings Quinte Paramedics as a precaution.
Belleville Police briefly closed Moira Street West in the area of the fire, but it was reopened by 4:45 am.
The investigation is continuing.
