A whirlwind season has been capped off by a raising of the American Hockey League’s top trophy for a Madoc player.
Ben Danford and the Toronto Marlies clinched the AHL’s Calder Cup with a 4-3 victory on Friday over the Chicago Wolves in Game 5 of the league final.
Danford was brought into the fold for the AHL playoffs after his junior club, the Brantford Bulldogs, were eliminated from the OHL playoffs.
The 20-year-old defenceman notched three points in 16 playoff games on the road to the championship.
He had started the season with the Oshawa Generals before being traded to Brantford and also suited up for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Minnesota, winning a bronze medal.
Danford was a first round, 31st overall pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024.
Danford is a graduate of the Quinte Red Devils.
