The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid multiple charges and is investigating several collisions following recent incidents across the county.
On April 17, 2026, officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a recreation centre on Elgin Street in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
Following a conversation with the driver, officers initiated an impaired operation investigation, which resulted in the individual being taken into custody.
Bradley HOLMES (24) of Hastings has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
On April 18, 2026, shortly before 3:00 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Little Lake Road in the Township of Cramahe. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were also dispatched for reported injuries.
Officers arrived to find a pickup truck that had collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle at a residence, causing extensive damage. Two occupants were transported to a local hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries.
Upon speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired operation investigation, resulting in the individual being taken into custody.
Jayden HAALSTRA (18) of Trenton has been charged with:
- Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
- Operation causing bodily harm
- Operation while impaired
- Young driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero
- Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero
Each accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in May 2026. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound were also imposed.

On April 16, 2026, an officer observed an individual operating a scooter without a helmet on Gravel Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
Further investigation revealed the individual was prohibited from operating a conveyance.
Bruno MILNE (43) of Warkworth has been charged with:
- Operation while prohibited
- Fail to wear proper helmet
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July 2026. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
Collision Investigations
On April 16, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a two‑vehicle collision in the area of Bridge Street West and Grand Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
The local Fire Department and EMS also attended the collision, which involved a youth operating a scooter. The youth was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The roadway was closed for the investigation and reopened shortly after 6:00 p.m. This investigation remains ongoing.
On April 17, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., emergency services responded to a two‑vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound in the Municipality of Port Hope.
EMS attended for reported minor injuries after one vehicle left the roadway and entered a ditch. One lane was closed for the investigation and vehicle removal, with all lanes reopening at approximately 3:00 p.m. This investigation remains ongoing.
On April 18, 2026, at approximately 12:40 p.m., OPP responded to a report of a single‑vehicle collision on County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope.
A passenger vehicle had reportedly left the roadway. The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. This investigation also remains ongoing.
