A Belleville man has been arrested following a robbery and the seizure of a weapon on Tuesday.
On April 14th (Tuesday) at 8:08pm, Belleville Police responded to multiple calls regarding a vehicle being driven recklessly in a business parking lot in the city’s north end.
Further investigation revealed that the male suspect had attempted to leave the business without paying for merchandise. When an employee tried to stop him, he shoved the employee to the ground, took their cellphone, and fled to his vehicle with the stolen items.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage showing the suspect leaving the business and driving aggressively past other vehicles and pedestrians in the parking lot.
Police located the suspect and discovered a knife during his arrest.
As a result of police investigation, a 32-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:
· Robbery with violence
· Unauthorized possession of a weapon
· Theft under $5000 – shoplifting
· Dangerous operation
· Failure to comply with an undertaking
· Stunt driving (HTA)
He was held for a bail hearing. His name was not released.
