SIU concludes investigation after man suffers broken nose in struggle with officer at BGH

By Paul Martin Mar 16, 2026 | 5:08 AM
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe a Belleville Police Service officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the fractured nose suffered by a 35-year-old man during a struggle at the hospital.
On August 29, 2025, the officer arrested the man after he became belligerent in the emergency department of Belleville General Hospital. While an officer and security guards tried to restrain him and he was being sedated, the man was punched and kicked by the officer, and the man reportedly lunged and attempted to bite as well as headbutt officers and security guards.
