New military housing units announced including hundreds at CFB Trenton

By Paul Martin Feb 24, 2026 | 10:44 AM

The federal government has announced funding for thousands of new housing units for military personnel across the country, including more than 350 at CFB Trenton.

Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette was on site at Uplands Canadian Forces Support Group (Gatineau-Ottawa) today/Tuesday where Minister David McGuinty announced the next phase of the Department of National Defence’s national housing program. This is a major expansion of military housing that will see thousands of new Residential Housing Units (RHUs) built across Canada.

Through the Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA), the Department of National Defence (DND) is planning to deliver approximately 7,500 new residential housing units. Phase 2 of the construction program directly builds on the accelerated progress of the first phase, which is already delivering over 800 new units in nine locations experiencing significant housing pressures.

The plan for the second phase is to include, approximately, over 350 units at 8 Wing Trenton.

“I was honoured to be on hand at Uplands Canadian Forces Support Group today, along with my colleagues who represent ridings with military bases, as Minister McGuinty made this important announcement. Our government is committed to supporting our Canadian Armed Forces members, and housing is high on our priority list at CFB Trenton. I have had many conversations with CAF personnel over the past year about the need for military housing in our riding, so I am pleased to see units for Trenton included in today’s announcement.”  – Chris Malette, MP, Bay of Quinte
