Belleville’s Bridge St. East project set to begin

By Brock Ormond Feb 19, 2026 | 4:07 PM
The City of Belleville is moving forward with the Bridge Street East Reconstruction Project to address aging infrastructure between Herchimer Avenue and Haig Road.
The project is a proactive investment in replacing critical underground infrastructure and improving the long-term reliability of the City’s water, sanitary and road systems in this corridor.
City officials stated existing watermain has reached the end of its service life and has experienced frequent breaks, making replacement necessary to reduce future service disruptions and emergency repairs.
The existing sanitary sewer has also reached the end of its service life and has numerous breaks and infiltration. As part of the project, the current clay or asbestos cement sewer will be replaced with new PVC pipe, and existing cast-in-place maintenance holes will be replaced with new precast maintenance holes.
“Investing in infrastructure before failures occur helps us reduce service disruptions and plan responsibly for the future,” stated project manager Kyle Hope.
“This project will strengthen the reliability and resilience of essential services for residents and businesses along Bridge Street East.”
Construction will result in temporary traffic, access and service impacts. The city will share updates in advance and throughout the project to help residents and businesses plan accordingly.
