The Cobourg Police Service is investigating an assault that occurred in
the early morning hours of September 6, 2026.
At approximately 2:40 a.m., an individual attended the Cobourg Police Service and reported having been
assaulted in the area of McGill Street and King Street East in Cobourg.
Through the investigation, officers learned that a verbal interaction escalated, and the individual was struck by
an unknown object. The individual was transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries and has since been
released.
Police attended the area and identified several individuals who were present at the time of the incident. Police
secured and processed the scene with the assistance of the Durham Regional Police Service Scenes of Crime
Officer unit. Police seized evidence including a long object believed to have been used in the assault.
At this time, no suspect has been identified. The Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigation Bureau continues
to investigate, canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing available video footage. Based on the
information currently available at this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there
is no known ongoing risk to public safety.
