QW Fire holding open house to kick off Fire Prevention Week

Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services is inviting the community to kick off Fire Prevention Week 2025 with a free, family-friendly open house on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 1, 49 Dixon Dr., Trenton.

This year’s annual Fire Prevention Week Open House will include educational activities, fire station tours, emergency vehicle displays, and live equipment demonstrations.

Fire Prevention Week runs from Oct. 5 to Oct. 11. This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” highlights safe battery use in everyday household devices.

“This year’s fire prevention theme is an important reminder of the growing presence of these batteries in our daily lives,” says Fire Chief John Whelan.

“From phones to e-bikes, lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we rely on, so it’s important that the Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services team help ensure that our community knows how to use, charge and store the batteries safely to prevent fires.”

Fire Prevention Week is recognized across Canada and focuses on raising awareness about fire safety, prevention, and preparedness.

Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services encourages all residents to take time during Fire Prevention Week to review their personal and family fire safety plans, test smoke alarms, and ensure they have a home escape plan in place in case of fire.
