A bomb threat that forced the evacuation of stores at an east end Trenton retail plaza is being investigated by Quinte West OPP.

Police confirmed a threatening phone call was made to the Giant Tiger in the Trenton Town Centre shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, indicating there was a bomb in the store, and causing employees and customers of that store and neighbouring businesses to evacuate as a precaution.

Officers and the OPP Canine Unit conducted a search and found no suspicious items, but are continuing to investigate the source of the call.

The store was reopened just before 3:00 p.m.

OPP and emergency responders were on scene in case anyone felt exposure and needed medical attention.

OPP officials stated making a bomb threat is a crime and poses significant risk to public safety and requires immediate attention and investigation.

Anyone with information in this matter is asked to contact Quinte West OPP or CrimeStoppers.
