Councillor Henderson offers ‘Speeder’s Special’ at Quinte Restaurant

Quinte Restaurant, owned by Belleville Councillor Kelly Henderson, is now offering a ‘Speeder’s Special’ to those who have been ticketed by the Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras in Belleville.

It states residents can present their Automated Speed Enforcement Ticket and receive 10% off any dinner entree for the months of September and October.

Tickets must be from Belleville and must be from the months from July to October. One ticket per person.

Councillor Henderson has been outspoken about her thoughts on the Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras in the city at prior Council meetings. She recently called for an end to the cameras, aside from school zones, with a motion that ultimately failed at their Aug 25 meeting. Prior to this, she called for a staff report outlining the steps necessary for the cameras to be turned off between the hours of 11pm and 7am on Jun 9. The majority of Council were not in agreement with this, and staff also did not recommend a change from the current 24-hour enforcement.

At the Aug 25 meeting, Councillor Henderson said her stance on the matter is not to be anti-safety, but pro-engineering standards and that the current system generates revenue based off penalizing ‘Predictable driving behaviour on poorly matched road design.’ She also mentioned that in a public survey regarding the cameras, a whopping 56% of residents who responded were not in favour of them, with only 10% being completely in favour.

Mayor Neil Ellis was also in favour of the ultimate failed motion at said meeting.

Belleville Council meets again on Monday, Sep 8 at 4pm at Belleville City Hall.
