The City of Belleville is pleased to welcome a new doctor to their doctor recruitment program.

Dr. Anuja Ashok is currently completing her residency training at Queen’s University and is expected to start practicing medicine in Belleville as early as the fall of 2027.

“I have had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Ashok and her husband,” said Mayor Neil Ellis.

“Not only will she be a terrific doctor, but together they will be a wonderful addition to our city. Council and the community are very lucky Dr. Ashok has chosen Belleville as her new home.”

Dr. Ashok says she is honoured to serve the people of Belleville and is grateful for this welcoming community.

“I look forward to contributing to its well-being as we make Belleville our home,” she said.

Dr. Ashok’s arrival underscores the City’s commitment to enhancing local healthcare services by attracting much-needed medical professionals. The City of Belleville looks forward to the positive impact that she will bring the community.

Although healthcare and physician recruitment are not municipal responsibilities, the City of Belleville has recognized the need and implemented one of the most successful physician recruitment programs in the province, recruiting more than 60 physicians and eight nurse practitioners.

The progam has been mainly funded by the divedens the City receives as a shareholder of Elexican Energy, and to date, over $9 millon has been committed to attracting primary healthcare providers.

For residents in need of a family physician or a nurse practitioner, it is important to register wirh Health Care Connect (HCC). HCC is a resource used by physicians and government agencies to place patients with physicians and can be relied upon by doctors and nurse practitioners when developing or expanding their roster of patients.

You can register with HCC by calling 1-800-445-1822 (TTY 1-800-387-5559) or by visiting the HCC website.
