Belleville Council ready to discuss fee waiver, parking Monday

By Hailey MacDonald Sep 8, 2025 | 7:18 AM

Belleville Council will consider providing some financial relief to Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Hastings at its meeting on Monday.

A partial building permit fee waiver of $200,000 from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund is on the table to support the development of 66 residential units on 93 Dundas Street East.

A daycare centre will also be part of the project.

The conditional building permit fee for this project is estimated to be $225,000.

Recommendations on changes to parking in downtown Belleville will be discussed at city council later today.

A staff report that’s expected to come to council identifies a phased approach to modernizing Belleville’s parking system

Recommendations include increasing set fines for infractions, bumping up the fee for daytime parking permits, increasing the hourly parking rate to $1.50 per hour from the current $1 an hour and implementing an overnight parking permit program.

Council meets at 4 o’clock Monday afternoon at City Hall.
