Aiming to create respectful school environments through new campaign

The local public school board is committing to creating safe and respectful learning environments through a year-long campaign.

The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board stated the Words Matter Campaign aims to address the nuances of language that can instill harm, bias and discrimination.

By having open dialogue and education about the power of words, school board officials say the aim is to create a culture of mindful communication.

This campaign will involve not just students and staff but also parents and caregivers, emphasizing the crucial role that families play in promoting respectful interactions.

The school board says it will be offering a virtual workshop for parents and caregivers to understand the impact of language on children and others in the community.

The workshop will go Tuesday, November 18 from 6:00-7:30 PM and access to will be provided by each school.
