The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte is advising of drug poisoning concerns after some recent reports in the Belleville area.
MBQ and Southeast Public Health officials stated on Facebook the events took place over this past weekend (Feb. 6 to 8), involving people becoming ‘heavily sedated’ after using an unregulated substance anecdotally described as ‘blue fentanyl.’
Side effects of this drug include; unresponsiveness up to two-plus hours, requiring extensive monitoring from healthcare providers, slow and shallow breathing up to 10 seconds between breaths, lips turning blue/grey and skin turning pale/grey in colour and nausea/vomiting occurring once responsive.
The drugs in question are not confirmed due to a lack of drug testing services, SEPH officials stated.
If residents would like to have Naloxone on hand, they are asked to please stop by the health side of the Community Wellbeing Centre to pick up a kit.
Naloxone will not reverse the effects of sedatives, but will help to reverse the effects of opioids on the body.
