The Stouffville Spirit separated themselves from the Wellington Dukes in the third period to keep in line for the East Conference crown on Saturday night.
The Spirit scored three times in the third to win 6-3 at Stouffville Arena.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room thanks to a late first period marker from Zack Corte.
The momentum carried over into the second, with Hudson Armstrong striking 16 seconds into the frame, but Wellington showed its resilience by pulling back even at two.
Liam Campbell took an Evan Erwin feed and shelved a shot over Hayden Sabourin to continue his blazing hot run with his 18th of the season.
Tristan Williams added an assist at 7:40.
Then, Cooper Woron buried his first of two on the night from Aiden Lee and Cain Tucker at 9:24 to tie the score.
Lucas Demiglio put the Spirit back ahead again before the period was out and the home side went on to add to it in the final frame, with Henry Austin ripping home a shot past Dryden Riley to make the score 4-2.
Woron’s second of the game from Lee and Blake Berthiaume briefly got the Dukes back within one, but the deficit was expanded again quickly thanks to Corte and Kyle Baston to send the Dukes home frustrated.
Stouffville outshot Wellington 36-26 in the contest as the Spirit swept the season series versus the Dukes and extend their overall winning streak against them to 10 games dating back to last season.
Due to the postponement of the game scheduled for 7:30 at Lehigh Arena versus the Caledon Admirals on account of a forecasted snowstorm, the Dukes will next hit the ice in game action Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. versus the Milton Menace.
