Northumberland County will begin rehabilitation work on the Trent River Bridge on County Road 30 on Tuesday, August 18 requiring a full closure of the bridge through to October.
The bridge is located approximately 300 metres south of County Road 42 and provides an important north-south connection across the Trent River for residents, businesses and visitors travelling between Campbellford and the southern portion of County Road 30.
To help shorten the overall construction period and get the road reopened to residents and motorists as quickly as possible, the bridge will be fully closed to traffic during rehabilitation. This approach will allow crews to complete the work safely and efficiently, with signed detour routes in place for local and heavy-truck traffic.
Signed detour routes will be in place for both local traffic and heavy trucks. Each detour is expected to add approximately 20 minutes to the trip.
Additional signage will be installed in Campbellford and Havelock to advise motorists of the closure and provide alternative routes for accessing County Road 30 south and Highway 7.
The project will address deterioration identified through engineering assessments of the bridge, including issues with the expansion joints and associated approach and sleeper slabs.
Work will include:
Removal and reconstruction of the approach slabs, sleeper slabs and expansion joints;
Localized concrete removals and patch repairs to the sidewalk and curbs;
Patching and waterproofing of the existing concrete bridge deck; and
Paving of the bridge deck around the approach slabs.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time and follow all posted detour signage.
