The Prince Edward County OPP is welcoming a new Detachment Commander.
Staff Sergeant Jeff MacKinnon brings three decades of policing experience to the role. A graduate of Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Law, MacKinnon began a policing career with the OPP in 1995.
MacKinnon’s first posting was in Matheson, within the Northeast Region, where five years were spent gaining valuable front-line experience.
In November 2000, Mackinnon transferred to the Prince Edward County Detachment, working front-line policing for several years in addition to spending two years in the Crime Unit.
In 2008, MacKinnon was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to the Bancroft Detachment. A further promotion to Staff Sergeant followed in 2018, along with an appointment as Detachment Commander for Bancroft.
In May 2025, Mackinnon assumed the role of Interim Detachment Commander for Prince Edward County and has since been confirmed in the position on a permanent basis.
Throughout a distinguished career, MacKinnon has demonstrated a strong commitment to collaborative leadership and community engagement, with a focus on public safety and trust.
“It is a privilege and an honour to serve as Detachment Commander for Prince Edward County,” stated Mackinnon. “Effective policing cannot be achieved in isolation. Meaningful collaboration with community partners is essential to understanding local priorities and addressing what matters most to the people we serve.”
The OPP stated Mackinnon’s experience, leadership, and commitment to community-based policing make him a strong addition to the Prince Edward County Detachment and a valued partner to the communities it serves.
