UPDATE – Eastbound 401 reopened near Odessa, one lane closed

A series of crashes has been causing major delays on the 401 between Belleville and Kingston.

The most serious crash was reported on the eastbound 401 by the service centre near Odessa around 4:30 am.  The highway was closed in that area with traffic getting off at County Rd 6 and back on at Highway 38 for just over an hour. They reopened one eastbound lane around 7:30 am.

An earlier crash was reported on the eastbound 401 at Switzerville Road in Napanee. The left shoulder and left lane were closed with major delays in that area.

One lane was also closed on the westbound 401 at Shelter Valley Road in Grafton because of a disabled vehicle.

The westbound lanes were closed entirely for a short period near Kingston on Wednesday night due to a jack-knifed tractor trailer. They were reopened around midnight.

The westbound 401 was also closed just west of Odessa after another big-rig jack-knifed around 7:30 pm. It reopened there three hours later (around 10:30 pm).

Expect delays along the 401 today (Thursday) until conditions improve. No serious injuries have been reported.
