Water infrastructure upgrades coming to Napanee thanks to provincial investment

The Ontario government is investing a heavy sum of money to improve water infrastructure in Greater Napanee.

Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee announced on Wednesday up to $7,694,550 will be coming from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream, which has increased by $700 million for a total of $875 million to support access to safe drinking water, housing, job creation and protection for communities in the event of extreme weather events.

“I am thrilled to see the positive relationship between the province and Greater Napanee has resulted in this tremendous contribution to the safe water system for the residents of Greater Napanee,” Bresee stated.

“I am grateful to Premier Ford and to Minister McCarthy for continuing to show support for our small, rural and northern communities, ensuring that safe water systems are sustainable across the province.”

The MHIP-HSWS funding will be used to reconstruct the Isabella and Dundas St. water mains in Greater Napanee.

“We at the Town of Greater Napanee are extremely excited to learn of the almost $7.7-million-dollar investment by the Ford government into our Town’s aging infrastructure,” said Greater Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson.

“This investment will assist our municipality to continue to grow and remain a vibrant and successful community well into the future. Partnerships with upper levels of Governments are imperative to the success of small rural municipalities, and we are grateful for the exemplary working relationship we have with our provincial partners.”

This funding is part of a historic investment of $4 billion in the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program that aims to build transit, highways, hospitals, schools and water infrastructure that enables new housing.
