Fire shuts down two roads in Belleville

There were no injuries, but a fire just east of downtown Belleville was causing a few headaches for drivers on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a small multi-unit building at Bridge Street East and John Street shortly after 8 am.

The fire was contained to the one unit and everyone made it out safely.

Firefighters remain on the scene, and Belleville Police have the area blocked off.

NOTICE – 10:15 am – Belleville Police and Belleville Fire remain on scene at a fire located in the area of Bridge Street E and John Street. Bridge Street E remains closed between George Street and Church Street, and John Street is closed between Queen Street and Bridge Street E.

Numerous emergency vehicles and personnel remain in the area. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and plan alternate routes.
