County committee recommends approval of extension for affordable housing project

A project that increases the availability of affordable housing for seniors in Hastings County may be getting an extension on its building timeline.

Hastings County’s Community and Human Services Committee recommended that Hastings County Council approve a longer deadline for Springale Development Incorporated and All Together Affordable Housing Corporation’s Affordable Housing Project in Deloro until full occupancy is attained.

Director of Community and Human Services Jamie-Lynne Osmond told the committee on Wednesday the project experienced significant delays and cost increases resulting in extensions.

The current project completion date, December 2025, was approved by Hastings County Council in November 2024.

Osmond stated staff has seen considerable progress made on the project, including accepting applications for tenancy and the main floor was approved for occupancy on December 23, 2025.

However, occupancy of the second and third floors requires an extension due to delays in obtaining kitchen and bathroom cupboards and cabinetry.

The cupboards and cabinets arrived in December, and workers continued to install over the holidays, and through the new year.

Committee members agreed that getting this extension in place will lead to more efficient work and an overall better result for the project.
