Half-load restrictions begin Monday in Belleville

By Brock Ormond Jan 9, 2026 | 1:28 PM

The City of Belleville wishes to advise motorists that the Half-Load By-law will be in effect beginning Monday, Jan. 12, until further notice.

The Half Load Restriction By-law is used on municipal roads during spring freeze–thaw conditions when roads are at their weakest.

As temperatures fluctuate, moisture in the road structure causes the pavement to soften, making it more vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles. Applying half-load restrictions during this period helps prevent premature road damage, extends the life of our roads, and reduces future repair costs. These restrictions help preserve and protect roadways during periods of freeze-thaw conditions.

Heavy trucks are to be restricted in weight on all city roads within Ward 2 with the following exceptions:

· Casey Road from Highway #37 easterly to Forsythe Road

· Putman Road and part of the unopened road allowance between Concession 2 and Concession 3 and extending easterly to the southwest limit of Lot #1, Registered Plan Number 53 and shall include Part 5, Plan Number 21R-15284 and Part 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, Plan Number 21R-16211

· Millennium Drive

· Blessington Road from Highway #37, easterly 800 meters

· Mineral Road

· Parks Drive

· Maitland Drive from Highway #62 easterly to Cannifton Road North

· Tank Farm Road

· Cannifton Road North from River Road easterly to Highway #37

· River Road from Cannifton Road North to former Corby Distilleries Main Plant entrance

· Ashley Street in the Hamlet of Foxboro.

Signage is posted throughout the city indicating these restrictions.
