Special Weather Statement with heavy snow in some parts of Quinte on Monday

By Paul Martin Jan 5, 2026 | 4:50 AM

It could be a tricky day on local roadways as students return to class after the winter break in Quinte.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for some areas, mostly along the 401 corridor, including Belleville, Quinte West, Napanee and Kingston.

Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected with reduced visibility at times in heavy snow.

When: Beginning early Monday morning and tapering off Monday afternoon.

Additional information: Although modest snowfall amounts are expected, the timing of this snow will be problematic. Because the holiday season is now behind us, and traffic patterns should be closer to normal, this snow is expected to have more of an impact on the Monday morning commute. Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Allow extra time for travel.

There is also the chance of freezing drizzle this afternoon starting around 5 pm.
