UPDATE: County Road 49 open following barn fire

UPDATE: A barn has been destroyed by fire on County Road 49 in Prince Edward County.

County Fire and Rescue Crews responded to the structure fire at 2245 County Road 49 in the area of Bethesda Road in Sophiasburgh just after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

County officials say apparatus and firefighters from Divisions 1, 2 and 4 responded and quickly controlled the fire while preventing fire extension to nearby buildings.

The barn was being used for storage and was a complete loss. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

PECFR would like to thank the firefighters, OPP, Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services, and Hydro One for their on-scene support.

Both lanes of County Road 49 reopened to traffic around 12:30 p.m.

Prince Edward County firefighters are battling a barn fire on County Road 49 in Sophiasburgh.

Crews responded to the structure fire at 2245 County Road 49 in the area of Bethesda Road just after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Crews had the fire under control around 9:45 a.m.

No injuries have been reported at this time and there’s been no mention of livestock being involved.
