The Rochester Americans benefited from outstanding special teams work in a 6-1 victory over the Belleville Senators on Wednesday night.

Powerplays were the story in the first period, with four goals scored between the two teams.

The Amerks got off to a fast start, taking advantage of a early powerplay through a snipe from Riley Fiddler-Schultz on an outlet feed from Jack Rathbone at 3:27.

Rochester bumped the lead to two, when Konsta Helenius unleashed a one-timer past Mads Sogaard on another man advantage.

Olle Lycksell got an answer for the Sens on their first time with a man up, taking a diagonal pass from Carter Yakemchuk and rifling a shot crossbar and in for his fourth of the season.

Arthur Kaliyev added the second assist to add to his team-leading point total of 25.

However, the Amerks continued to push and reinstated the two-goal lead through Noah Ostlund’s powerplay goal, the third of the frame for the visitors.

The Sens generated several chances in the first half of the second frame, including a shorthanded break for Keean Washkurak, but were denied by Rochester netminder Devon Levi.

Rochester added to its lead when Victor Neuchev caught a pass on the left wing and whistled a clean shot off the post and in behind Mads Sogaard, who was chased in favour of Jackson Parsons.

That goal was the lone marker of the middle frame, but the Amerks weren’t done just yet.

Rochester tacked on two more in the third period, both from Nikita Novikov, shorthanded just 15 seconds into a Belleville powerplay and another exactly 12 minutes into the frame even strength.

The B-Sens had a couple powerplay opportunities in the third go away with no results on the scoreboard on an overall frustrating night for the home side.

The Sens didn’t leave without a fight though, getting heavily involved in a pair of late-game scrums.

In the end, Belleville fell to 11-13-2-0 on the campaign and couldn’t build off its momentum from Saturday’s win over Laval.

The Sens will get festive and merry this weekend at CAA Arena, starting with the Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday versus the Cleveland Monsters at 7 p.m.
