Generous donation provided to help Hospice Quinte offer grief support

A generous donation from the Alva Foundation has assured that Hospice Quinte will be able to continue offering grief groups for children and youths.
The Alva Foundation donated $10,000 to Hospice Quinte, which will support the next four Child and Youth Grief Groups.
“We are so thankful for this donation and what it means for Hospice Quinte,” said Hospice Quinte’s Community Hospice Manager Shelley Haggarty. “Losing a loved one can be a difficult and confusing time for a younger person, and this donation will help us to provide children with tools and strategies to navigate their grief.”
Hospice Quinte’s Child and Youth Grief Group provides an opportunity for children to express their grief through activity-based programming, connection with peers who have experienced a similar loss and teaches children coping strategies.
The six-week program has run once so far, focused on children aged 6-10 who have experienced the expected death of a loved one. The next group will be held in February and will be geared towards 11–15-year-olds.
The Alva Foundation provides financial support to Canadian registered charities who offer programs and services that support children and youth, and the environment. They have been supporting groups and initiatives in the Quinte region like the Child and Youth Grief Group for many years.
