Prince Edward County Council approves 2026 Taxi Fare Schedule

By Hailey MacDonald Nov 25, 2025 | 11:45 PM

Prince Edward County Council has approved a Taxi Fare Schedule in the municipality.

Staff heard from the local taxi operators that operating costs have drastically increased over the past few years, particularly the cost of obtaining and maintaining commercial insurance to operate vehicles that carry paying passengers, and the rising costs of fuel and vehicle maintenance.

As has been the case for a number of years, the local taxi companies operate out of Picton, and the fares have therefore historically been structured such that all fares originate in Picton. In other words, a passenger calling for pickup in Wellington will be charged up to the maximum fare from Picton to Wellington, in addition to the fare to the ultimate destination.

In collaboration with the taxi operators, staff reviewed each fare listed on the proposed schedule, comparing the current rates and the distances to each destination. A number of destinations were determined to be redundant and have been removed in the revised Schedule. While it was agreed that some fares should be reduced and others should remain unchanged, most of the fares on the revised schedule have been increased.

All fares for pick up outside of Picton shall be charged the fare from Picton to the pick up location in addition to the fare to the listed or non-listed destination.
