Quinte West Council will be undertaking the process of filling the vacant seat of late Coun. Sally Freeman at its meeting on Wednesday.

The Ward 1 Trenton Councillor passed away on October 22, following a lengthy illness.

A Councillor’s seat must be declared vacant if there is a resignation or a death.

Council will have three options to pore through, including authorizing a by-election, appointing an individual or approving the Council Vacancy Appointment Process Policy and authorizing the Clerk to accept applications from eligible applicants, all within 60 days.

If council elections to go with the appointment process for the vacant seat, the next in line from the 2022 election would be Leslie Roseblade.

Whoever fills the seat would serve the remaining term of council through November 14, 2026.
