A Hastings County report is showing a slight reduction in people experiencing homelessness last quarter.
A Built For Zero Report Card came to the Community and Human Services Committee on Wednesday, showing at least 251 people were without housing in Hastings County the last three months or July through September.
That’s down from 275 reported through the months of April, May and June this year, an 8.7 per cent decrease overall.
Community and Human Services Director Jamie-Lynne Osmond stated the decrease is attributed to 54 individuals moving into various types of housing, as well as people on the County’s by-name list moving to ‘inactive status’ by either leaving Hastings County or losing contact with the County’s coordinated access system.
In a separate report, Osmond told the committee PiT Count Enumeration was conducted last month in communities across the County with participation from numerous staff, community agencies, emergency services personnel and volunteers.
That survey showed 187 individuals were experiencing homelessness and agreed to be counted during enumeration across Hastings County, including 119 in Belleville, one in Central Hastings, 10 in Deseronto/Tyendinaga/MBQ, 20 in North Hastings, and 37 in Quinte West.
